AADD, or something like that!

How'd you like a bite of 3.5 million paying class-reunion-interested market?

Here’s an part of Classmates Media Corporation which runs Classmates.com...

“Led by its flagship Classmates Web site in the United States (www.classmates.com), the company serves more than 40 million registered accounts, including 3.5 million pay accounts as of March 31, 2008. Members have contributed to the company's social networking Web sites a substantial amount of distinct, relevant pieces of content that helps attract new social networking members and returning Web site visits from existing members.”

ICED COFFEE: Lee's Sandwich better than Micky D's

I'm no ta Peets or Starbucks regular, but Lee's is sweeter and richer than the Golden Arch's. And. Lee's is cheaper!

Go ahead and setup your basic keyboard and computer, cheaply!

Okay, originally, I bought my Casio Midi Keyboard for approx. $250, the midi cables (2) for $20 (or was it $20/each?) and USB Midi interface (was it $30?) and connected it to my Mac G4 which came bundled with GarageBand (part of iLife).

Today, you can get this same setup, individually...
Midi keyboard:  free to $50
Midi cables: free to $20 (or $10/each)
USB Midi interface:  free to $49
Macintosh G4 computer:  free to $50 (make sure you get the original OS CD for reinstalling the OS, if you have to!)

There you go...from FREE to $169!

Optional:  External self-powered speakers with bass, or connect to your stereo system (I use an audio mixer which, new, costs $149, not including cables and adapters)

Since 2004, I have completed several music arrangements (I used music loops in GarageBand) for videos I’ve worked on.

Have fun!

This week's pisser: The attachment was potentially dangerous and was moved to quarantine.

Here’s the text that was inserted into the e-mail from a service provider that was sending me several files which where zipped (compressed and bundled to make one file).

############################################################################
Panda ClientShield warning:

The file **name_cut_out** Citizen Aware Opt-In Reference Tools V1.1.zip was potentially dangerous and was moved to quarantine.
############################################################################

Umm, quarantine?  Where the hell is that?  It’s not on my computer...I searched.

You have to contact the network administrator to release it.  The next question?  Can you guess?  Try!

Was it ‘dangerous’?  I didn’t ask and it was never indicated that it was or it was cleaned, etc.  In the old days (only a decade ago), the anti-virus hardware (not software) that checked each e-mail and its attachments and would clean them or reject them.  The problem is, our IT staff are reactive, not as much as proactive, thus, questions are always there to be asked.

So, Panda ClientShield saw the attachment, based on rules set by the administrator, yanked the attachment and moved it to a pre-designated directory on the Panda server to sit with just a claim of illwill based on the rules of e-mail society set forth by its fore-fathers.  Was it infected or was it not?  Still the cloud of suspicion lingers to this day as it is the target of finger-pointers towards the accusation.

Should I send a virus to myself as an attachment and see what happens in that case?  First, I’ll backup my critical files...or, ‘ignorance is bliss’.

"Apple said Snow Leopard is half the size of the previous version, freeing up to 7 gigabytes of drive space when installed...", but...

“Apple said Snow Leopard is half the size of the previous version, freeing up to 7 gigabytes of drive space when installed. It requires a minimum of 1 gigabyte of RAM and runs on Macs using an Intel processor.”

It’s that last sentence which is the motivator for all the hard core and private developers using Macs to dump their old systems!  Man, I was just considering adding the MacBook Air to my active hardware, but now I may need to dump my G5 Dual-Motorola Processor tower (will my video cards still work? I have three monitors!).

Apple said Snow Leopard is half the size of the previous version, freeing up to 7 gigabytes of drive space when installed. It requires a minimum of 1 gigabyte of RAM and runs on Macs using an Intel processor.

Well, upgrading to the new FinalCut Studio requires a Mac with the newer Intel processor...so that tips the decision scale to...TIME TO BUY A NEW TOWER! (...and my bank accounts looked so good with all that money!  Maybe, I have to do some side jobs—why am I NOT already?)

Even gambling casinos have occasional server problems!

At Chukchansi Casino, their servers go down just I have witnessed by the display of 'standby' in the little LED displays. (I did check to verify this!)

[TIP]. Check posterous.com on how you can...

[techie consultant mode=on; hmm, very dusty!] In addition to posting short blurbs full of acronyms and sometimes abbreviations leaving readers to re-read your tweet several times, you can 1) summarize, 2) link to the full text, and 3) include photos, audio, word docs, etc...at http://posterous.com.

If you are reading this far, you are on Posterous.com’s site where two guys, on separate coasts, have put together this cool service which works for me, personally, and my work’s (City of Cupertino) workflow.  The key is to SUMMARIZE in the Subject line and in the body of the email, expand to your heart’s content.

If you go to http://twitter.com/cityofcupertino or to the city’s FB account, you’ll see how we use it...unfortunately, FB doesn’t allow director posting via their API on ‘organization/business’ accounts, but they do for personal accounts (what a bugger!  I almost had a workflow of ‘email once, post three times!!!)
