I'm Robert Allen Kim: How I use (micro)blogs

Check it out...I use Posterous.com’s blogging service which features “Autopost to Everywhere” which basically posts your Posterous.com posts to other services like Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Facebook, and even your very own and self-hosted Wordpress blog.

And, now, I am integrating my same workflow into my work’s workflow for outward communications.  Next, if I’m allowed, we’ll modify our site’s CMS code to also send certain events from the event calendar to Posterous which, in turn, will post to our other online presence.

Web 2.0 principles have revolutionized the Web experience as well as the design patterns and business models of software companies. This is a workshop on how innovative companies can apply Web 2.0 capabilities to leverage end-users for a powerful new approach to product development, also known as NPD 2.0. NPD 2.0 can enable companies to co-create better and richer products in a reduced timeframe.

This course is designed to help students learn how to apply the capabilities of the Internet to the product development process. Participants will learn:

*The most successful examples of turning over non-essential control to users directly via the Web.
*How to leverage the web and NPD 2.0 to protect a traditional business model in a Web 2.0 world.
*The most useful Web 2.0/social networking apps to support a closer collaboration.
*How to extend NPD 2.0 to partners and channels.
*How to overcome challenges companies may face as they apply NPD 2.0 to their products?

The course will follow a highly interactive workshop format to ensure that the theory and best practices of innovation are understood. Being trained for an emergency doesn't equate to using it when it's time!

I just arrived back home after getting my mail and responding to the screams of a fellow apartment dweller.  I tried to gather help as I headed to the apt. of the woman who ran out two or three times screaming for help.  Her 59 year old boyfriend of 16+ years was unconscious in a chair.  I got him to the floor.  But, I was unsure really, at that time, what to do, but I knew I had to make an effort.  I took one course in CPR, got my wallet card stating that I am certified (does that really mean more than taking a course?), and I was not doing all that I could.  I didn’t freeze...just was hesitant, resistant, scrambled for more help, trying to communicate with 911 (I could not get a dial-tone with the resident’s cordless phone!)  The woman called 911 on her cell and I took it from her since I spoke clear English when she didn’t.  (When a Police officer heard that I used the cell phone, he sighed because cellphone calls to 911 in the SF Bay Area are routed to the California Highway Patrol in the East Bay and not to a local 911 call center.  I knew this but forgot to mention the city I was in...this is why the 911 operator kept asking the building number over and over, and I repeated it, over and over.  Prior to using the woman’s cell phone, I had problems operating my iPhone!
Damn, I could have done more!

UPDATE:  24 hours later, I can reflect and say that if I get into a similar situation, I will try to be a bit more organized in the initial steps.  It was all in the training.  I keep reflecting on what happened, and I think about how our troops are trained, and then what they do when they first confront an enemy attack.  One big difference, there are others around them to assist in the situation!

It's nice to know my employer is stable during this shaky economic time

Earlier this week, the Mayor of Cupertino, Orrin Mahoney, was interviewed by KPIX, San Francisco-based CBS affiliate Ch. 5, regarding the financial situation in Cupertino...

Several years later, I finally track down the code mod and knuckle down to change the code!

This specific code hasn’t changed since its design in 2005.  So, many years later, my eyes (and mind) finally found the routine in all the code on my site to add to a user’s account upgrade.  This adds some user info to another set of tables which I had to, somewhat, handle manually!  Man, this is so rewarding, especially if you are like me, a non-programmer!

Now, let’s just wait to ensure that this change doesn’t break something else!  Ug!

Twitter Worth $250M; Gets $20M in Funding

Twitter Worth US$250m, Gets US$20m Injection
Michael Arrington’s sources tell him that
Twitter has secured a new round of funding
totalling at least US$20m. You can add this to the pile that it got from Jeff Bezos’ venture capital arm during the summer. That injection priced the company at US$100m , but Techcrunch reckons that the new round prices Twitter at US$250m.

Facebook tabled an
audacious takeover bid for Twitter a couple of months ago, offering a nominal US$500m deal comprised mostly of Facebook stock. Not least because nobody has any idea what Facebook stock is actually worth, Biz Stone and the boys knocked Zuckerburg back.
